Southeastern Regional Cooperative — Farm & Food Bank Operations Application
Understanding how a regional cooperative actually operates — farms, food banks, logistics, and information flow — then translating that into a working application.
Situation
Southeastern Regional Cooperative (SERC) coordinates farms and food banks across its region. The logistics, information, and workflows involved in coordinating that operation had outgrown whatever combination of spreadsheets, emails, phone calls, and manual tracking was holding it together.
Problem
SERC knew they needed a better way to manage the logistics, information, and workflows involved in coordinating farms and food banks — but they didn't arrive with a software specification. They arrived with a real, complicated operation and the sense that there had to be a better way.
Chris's role
Chris worked directly with SERC to understand how the organization actually operates before determining how the application should work. This was not a software-development assignment where SERC handed over specifications and Chris built them. Chris's role was to learn the business, identify the real requirements, think through the full workflow, and then translate that understanding into a working application.
How Chris approached it
Chris met with SERC to understand the business, its processes, the people involved, the logistical challenges, what needed to be tracked, and how information needed to move through the system. An important part of Chris's role was helping determine what SERC actually needed — not simply building what they initially thought they needed. Using Base44, Chris translated those business requirements and workflows into a working application. The process was iterative: Chris built the initial application, met with SERC to walk through it, gathered feedback, updated the application based on what was learned, met with SERC again, helped the organization test it, and continued refining the system based on actual use and feedback.
What Chris built
A working application, built with Base44, designed to help SERC manage its farms and food banks more efficiently — shaped by understanding the real operation rather than a fixed list of specifications.
Result
An application that fits SERC's real-world operation because it was built from an understanding of how the organization actually works, then refined through real use and feedback.
